I think a lot of childhood loss/trauma comes with the fear of trying new things. I have shied away from watching new shows for the longest time. Whenever someone has asked me in conversation, “Are you watching any new shows?” I’ve never been able to say yes. I never knew why but I finally figured it out. It sounds silly, but I don’t like to start new shows or watch movies I haven’t seen because something could trigger me.
My fiancé finally got me to start a new show. For the past 26 years, I have only really spent time in Stars Hollow or Central Perk, spaces of deep comfort, closeness, and familiarity. We are 10 episodes into Friday Night Lights and I love it. I will learn nothing from this, but all I can say is I’m glad I’m with someone who can help me out in the small ways.
